Description

X-treme E-Bike Rubicon 36v Electric Mountain Bicycle

Highlights:

  • 23 mph top speed and a 35 mile range
  • Lithium Ion 36 volt 10 ah LiFePo4 removable e-bike battery
  • 350 watt rear hub motor
  • Light weight aluminum alloy frame
  • Front and rear mechanical disc brakes
  • Rear cargo rack
  • Adjustable front fork suspension.

The Rubicon 36 Volt Mountain Bicycle is a Lithium Battery powered Electric Bicycle cranking out 350 watts from the rear hub motor. This bike features a lightweight lithium LiFePo4 36 volt 10Ah battery pack providing a considerable amount of power greater than our other 24 volt beach cruiser models.  The 100% hand welded lightweight aluminum frame bicycle has our 7-Speed Shimano Tourney® Gears & Shifter System, , aluminum rims with quick release axle on the front and a water proof quick disconnect on the rear.

The Rubicon comes equipped with our Smart Power Assist System (SPAS).  The electronics of the X-Treme Electric Bicycle are controller via rider input on the LCD screen attached to the handlebars.  Smart PAS with 5 speeds will enable the bike to operate nearly twice as efficient as a non-smart assist e-bike, because you select the power consumption (speed controls 1-5 setting) on the LCD during your ride.  This feature will allow you Rubicon 36 Volt to possible reach or exceed 35 miles per charge (during optimal terrain conditions).  The LCD also indicated Speed, Distance and Battery Life.

The Rubicon 36 Volt Mountain Bicycle has a top speed of 23 MPH (faster if you pedal) which is faster than any model we sell and will go the distance of up to 25 miles using power only and up to 35 miles per hour using the SPAS.  The LiFePo4 lithium battery pack is lightweight, compact and mounts below your seat and locks into place with a removable key.

Front & rear disk brakes are standard on the Rubicon 36 Volt Mountain Bicycle along with the RST Carve Hydraulic Front Forks for a smooth ride.

  • Great Electric Bike for a Hilly Commute

First off, I had planned on purchasing the X-Treme Trail Maker before discovering the X-Treme Rubicon 36, which appears similar to the Trail Maker, but with the following improvements over that model. Suffice to say, I bought the Rubicon 36: 1) More power with the 36v circuit. It's enough to get a good kick when hitting the throttle and IMO, really necessary for those with a hilly commute like myself. 2) Multiple levels of assist. I use Level 5 (highest) to power up moderate and steep hills. Level 3 for level terrain and slight inclines. 3) Battery integration into frame. Shifts some of that bulky weight forward of the seat for slightly better handling. Also, the electronics seem better protected from wet environments. 4) Improved digital display. Shows all the information one needs within the same view. The display that came with my Rubicon has the following configuration: Odometer, trip, charge, speed, assist level and wattage output. I mention these, since some of the online pics of the Rubicon 36's digital display depict slightly different configurations that falsely display additional information. So after about three months of ownership and 300 miles, my general impression of the Rubicon 36 is that of a fairly solid bike that handles and performs quite well for an Ebike in the $1K category. Keep this in mind when reading the following. Specific Observations: - Despite the claimed 35 miles per charge, I find this actually closer to between 25 and 30 miles with my particular commute

So after about three months of ownership and 300 miles, my general impression of the Rubicon 36 is that of a fairly solid bike that handles and performs quite well for an Ebike in the $1K category. Keep this in mind when reading the following.

    Specific Observations:
    - Despite the claimed 35 miles per charge, I find this actually closer to between 25 and 30 miles with my particular commute. For each trip, I use Assist Level 3 about half the time, with short stints at Level 5 and the remainder with no assist. My route is primarily uphill and downhill. Note that I ride until the battery is completely drained before fully re-charging it.
    - At around 100 miles, the assist feature developed an intermittent problem where it cuts out momentarily before opening up again with a brief burst of power. This cycle then repeats multiple times before sometimes recovering. At this time, I'm able to work around the problem by using the throttle in place of the assist. Shall research the issue when I get a chance... hopefully just a sensor thing?
    - Love the Shimano "click" gear shifter.
    - The 7 speeds and gearing ratios appear well suited when factored in with the assist. Keep in mind that this is not a racing bike.
    - Brakes perform decently, but squeal badly... I may just need to adjust them again.
    - Pedals are so-so quality and I've already replaced them with a premium set that has a broader surface area (personal preference).
    - The provided headlight did its job, but I just replaced with a much brighter one out of safety concerns.
    - Front shocks are holding up well on the rougher streets that I ride, which was the primary reason that I chose a mountain bike.
    - Manual is very poor. Not even a parts list.

    Performance:
I'm 145 pounds and obtain the following speeds on level streets and where wind is non existent to light:
    - Brief stints of up to 30 MPH with max assist and pedaling very fast in the highest gear. Pretty good considering the amount of wind resistance at this speed. Also, I'm not athletic, but do consider myself fairly fit.
    - Up to 19 MPH (battery was at lower end of charge) on max throttle and no pedaling. I haven't bothered clocking the time it takes to reach this speed, nor remain at it.

Shipping and Support (not included in bike rating):
The box arrived torn up with just the straps holding it together. Fortunately, the most sensitive parts of the bike were well wrapped and protected with only a few scrapes to the frame. Several parts were missing (I'm sure lost through one of the openings), so I contacted Eric at Farbike and he responded right away with direction to contact X-Treme. I did so, and after some back-and-forth, received the parts within a week. Am happy with my interactions with both Farbike and X-Treme.

Box was open, along with several holes and tears, battery was laying in bottom of box along with pedals and other items loose and banging around. Seat post deeply scratched,
The battery is missing cover for test button. None of these issues a real major problem, no problem with assembly, videos for complete assembly are on Farbike.com. Initial test ride very good. Looking forward to testing out the range, responsiveness and handling on variousterrain.
